Tranquility Index

90 / 100

The Tranquility Index evaluates a hotel’s setting, seclusion and restorative offering based on our research. Firsthand stays may add additional verified insights.

The Tranquil Summary

A restored medieval hamlet in the hills near Montaione, between Florence and Pisa, at the centre of a 1,100-hectare private estate of vineyards, olive groves and woodland. The borgo holds the hotel, an 800-year-old castle, a church, a spa and the largest golf course in Tuscany.

Best for

Families and couples who want a self-contained Tuscan base with room to spread out, a mix of pool, spa, golf, riding and cookery, and hill villages within easy reach. Good for longer stays and for groups taking a villa.

Consider if

This is a large estate resort rather than an intimate agriturismo, with roughly 150 rooms, suites and villas across the hamlet and a golf course at its heart, so it will feel too spread out for anyone wanting somewhere small. A car is useful, and the scale shows most in high summer.

Why it's Tranquil

The hamlet stands alone on a ridge with long views over 1,100 hectares of the estate's own vineyards, olive groves and forest, with no through traffic and no neighbouring development. The restoration has kept the stone lanes, castle and church intact while adding a spa with pools and thermal areas. Beyond the buildings the estate is farmland and marked trails, and the elevated position keeps the outlook open in every direction.
