The Tranquil Traveller

Privacy Policy

Last updated: 3 September 2026

Summary

The Tranquil Traveller is an independent editorial directory of hotels. You can read everything on the site without giving us any personal information. We do not sell your data, we do not run advertising, and we keep the little information we do process to a minimum. This page explains what happens in more detail.

Who we are

The Tranquil Traveller (“we”, “us”) operates this website. For any question about privacy, or to exercise the rights described below, contact us at hello@thetranquiltraveller.com.

Information we collect

Information you give us. We do not have accounts, logins or sign-up forms. The only time you share personal information is if you choose to email us, in which case we receive your email address and whatever you put in your message.

Information collected automatically. Like most websites, our hosting provider records standard technical data when a page is requested, such as your IP address, browser type, the page you asked for and the time of the request. This is used to serve the site, keep it secure and diagnose faults.

Analytics. If we use a privacy-respecting analytics tool to understand which guides and hotels are read most, it is configured not to track you across other websites and not to sell your data. We will name the provider here if and when one is in use: [analytics provider, or “none currently”].

Cookies

The site does not set advertising or cross-site tracking cookies. Any cookies present are strictly necessary for the site to function or, if analytics are enabled, limited to first-party measurement. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings without losing access to any content.

How we use information

  • To operate, secure and maintain the website.
  • To respond to messages you send us.
  • To understand, in aggregate, which content is useful so we can improve it.
  • To comply with legal obligations.

We rely on your consent, express or implied, for this limited processing, and on our legitimate interest in running a functional, secure website. For visitors in the UK or the EEA, our lawful bases under the UK GDPR or EU GDPR are legitimate interests, consent, and legal obligation.

Links to other websites

Hotel names, “Check availability” buttons and other outbound links take you to websites we do not control, such as a hotel’s own booking page. Once you leave The Tranquil Traveller, this policy no longer applies. Please read the privacy policy of any site you visit.

Sharing and service providers

We do not sell or rent personal information. We share it only with the service providers that help us run the site, for example our hosting and content-infrastructure providers [e.g. hosting provider and database provider], and only so they can perform that service. We may also disclose information if required by law or to protect our rights.

International transfers

We are based in Canada, and our providers may process data on servers in Canada, the United States or elsewhere. Wherever data is processed, we use providers that offer a comparable level of protection and appropriate contractual safeguards.

Retention

Server and analytics logs are kept only for as long as needed for security and measurement, then deleted or anonymised. Emails you send us are kept for as long as needed to deal with your enquiry and our records, then deleted.

Your rights

You may ask to see the personal information we hold about you, to have it corrected, or to have it deleted, and you may withdraw consent at any time. Depending on where you live you may also have rights to object to or restrict processing and to data portability. To make a request, email hello@thetranquiltraveller.com.

If you are in Canada and are not satisfied with our response, you can contact the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada or your provincial privacy regulator. Visitors in the UK or the EEA can complain to their local data protection authority.

Children

The site is intended for adults and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect information from children.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. The date at the top shows when it last changed. Significant changes will be highlighted on this page.
