The Tranquility Index evaluates a hotel’s setting, seclusion and restorative offering based on our research. Firsthand stays may add additional verified insights.

The Tranquil Summary

A nine-room retreat on a clifftop above Chamberlain Gorge, on a former cattle station of almost 700,000 acres in the East Kimberley. The Chamberlain Suite is cantilevered over the gorge, and all dining and most experiences are included.

Best for

Travellers who want the scale and remoteness of the Kimberley with a small, staffed homestead to come back to each evening.

Consider if

The Homestead operates seasonally in the Kimberley dry season, and around 100 km of the approach is unsealed road. The wider El Questro property also has a lower-key station township and campground, which is separate from the Homestead.

Why it's Tranquil

Nine rooms and suites for a maximum of around 18 guests, on a clifftop above the water. Set on almost 700,000 acres of gorges, ranges and thermal springs, about an hour by road from the nearest town. Dining, drinks and most guided experiences, including gorge cruises, are included. Evening meals are served at the communal table or at private spots along the gorge.
