The Tranquil Summary
An adults-only mountain hotel at 1,800 metres on the Plose, above Brixen in South Tyrol, on a clearing chosen in 1912 as a sanatorium site for its air and never built on. Sixty-two pale-wood suites, split between a historic stone building and three sculptural timber towers, all face south toward the Dolomite peaks, above a spa built around a panoramic indoor-outdoor pool.
Best for
Couples and design-minded travellers who want a spa-led base in the mountains, with skiing from the door in winter and hiking straight into the Dolomites in summer. It suits guests happy with a set half-board menu rather than a choice of restaurants.
Consider if
It is adults-only and reached by a winding climb of around 40 minutes from Brixen, well above the valley. Dining is half board with a fixed daily menu, the design is deliberately spare, and the Plose ski lifts nearby draw day skiers in season, though they clear by late afternoon.
Why it's Tranquil
Forestis stands alone on its clearing with nothing built around it, spruce forest on three sides and an open run of sky and rock to the south, so every suite looks straight at the peaks. The spa is arranged around that same view, with an indoor-outdoor pool, a series of saunas, and treatments drawing on the larch, stone pine and spruce of the surrounding forest, while the pool and the rain showers run on the hotel's own Plose spring water. The altitude keeps the air cool and the nights quiet, and the pace is set by the forest, the pool and the light on the Dolomites rather than by anything to do indoors.
