Hoshino Resorts' take on glamping: a terrace of around 40 minimalist concrete cabins stepped down a wooded slope above Lake Kawaguchiko, each with a fireside balcony framing Mount Fuji. Arrival comes with a canvas backpack of kit, and days run on forest activities, campfire cocktails and open-air dining.
Best for
A design-led outdoors stay with a great view, close to Tokyo. Suited to couples and active travellers who want cabins in the forest, canoeing and e-bike rides, and a campfire in the evening rather than a spa.
Consider if
There is no onsen and the wellness side is light, so this is not a bathing or spa retreat. Cabins sit close together on the terrace, many activities cost extra, and the Fuji view depends on the weather. It is a 15-minute drive from Kawaguchiko station in a busy lakeside area.
Why it's Tranquil
The resort is built into cedar, pine and cypress forest on a slope above the lake, with cabins turned to face Mount Fuji and the water and a stack of open wooden decks, the Cloud Terrace, for sitting out among the trees. Evenings are quiet and outdoor: a short forest concert, then cocktails around the fire at the Takibi bar. The cabins are pared back, with a fireplace and a balcony, and the forest paths start at the door.
