A modern ryokan stacked into a 17-storey tower in Tokyo's Otemachi financial district. Shoes come off at the entrance, every floor is tatami with just six rooms and an attended tea lounge, and the top floor holds an open-air onsen fed by dark mineral water drawn from 1,500 metres below the city.
Best for
Travellers who want a genuine ryokan rhythm without leaving central Tokyo, walking distance from the Imperial Palace gardens and Tokyo Station. Suited to couples and solo travellers who value quiet, service and bathing over a view.
Consider if
It is in a dense business district, so the outlook outside is office towers rather than scenery, and it is expensive for a city hotel. The full ryokan experience, tatami, futon and kaiseki, is the point, but suits some travellers better than others.
Why it's Tranquil
The building is sealed off from the city the moment you step out of your shoes onto tatami: bamboo-screened lifts, hushed corridors, and only six rooms to a floor, each with its own lounge kept stocked through the day. The 17th-floor onsen is open to the sky, filled with mineral-heavy water from deep beneath Otemachi, and is rarely busy. Meals are slow and seasonal, and the overall effect is a quiet inn hidden inside a skyscraper.
