The Tranquil Summary

Ten canvas tents on stilts among granite boulders in the southern Namib desert, in Namibia's Karas region, styled after 1920s explorer camps and furnished with hundreds of period antiques. An all-inclusive lodge with an infinity pool, reached by a five to six-hour drive from Windhoek or a chartered light aircraft.

Best for

A remote, romantic desert stay with dune drives, walking, horse or camel rides, stargazing and long afternoons by the pool. Suited to couples and small groups who want isolation and a strong sense of place.

Consider if

It is very remote and expensive, with only ten tents, so availability is limited and getting there needs a charter flight or a long drive on gravel roads. Desert temperatures swing hard between day and night, and the nearest sights, including Sossusvlei, are a drive away.

Why it's Tranquil

The camp is built into a rocky outcrop with nothing but open desert in every direction and no light or noise for miles, so the night skies are exceptional. The tents are linked by raised walkways and spaced along the boulders for privacy, each fitted out in warm 1920s style with sourced antiques. Rates cover meals, drinks and daily guided excursions, and the infinity pool looks straight out over the plain.
